We are committed to creating and imparting knowledge for the benefit of our society and the environment. It is our goal to help cope with the global challenges facing humankind by pathbreaking research contributions, above all in the areas of energy transition, future mobility, and technologies for the information society. One reason is that the society’s need for scientific solutions in these areas is very high. On the other hand, the KIT community possesses vast competencies in these areas, which can be applied for the society’s benefit in this way.
Our mission-guided research is complemented by fundamental research in many fields, such as materials research, particle physics, climate and environmental research, and biology. Research is frequently conducted jointly by natural scientists, engineers, economists, humanities scholars, and social scientists. As new technologies do not only have advantages, but often are associated with uncertainties, technology assessment and advising politics are major aspects of our research at KIT. In this way, we want to create understanding and acceptance for new developments as well as respond to your expectations, hopes, and concerns. Be curious and support us in bringing in line the opportunities and risks of research and innovation.
