In the worldwide ranking of the Times Higher Education Maga-zine (THE ranking), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) has improved by 45 places from rank 196 to 151. In particular, it was given an excellent rating in the category of “Industry Income”. In international comparison, KIT has improved considerably and now is among the ten best universities in Germany.
KIT has also improved in the categories of “Research” and “Teach-ing”. Hence, KIT has reached good results in its three fields of action of research, teaching, and innovation. The top universities in the world are the California Institute of Technology, the University of Oxford, and Stanford University. Of all German universities, KIT is in 8th place. The ten best German universities are LMU Munich, the universities of Göttingen and Heidelberg, HU Berlin, TU Munich, FU Berlin, Universität Freiburg, RWTH Aachen in place 9, and Bonn University on the 10th place.
Once per year, the Times Higher Education, in cooperation with Thomson Reuters, publishes the World University Ranking. It evalu-ates the strengths of the universities in their core tasks based on 13 individual indicators that are summarized in five main indicators. These are: Teaching, research, citations, industry income, and international outlook.
