The 2010 Heinrich Hertz Guest Professorship of the Karlsruher Universitätsgesellschaft and KIT is held by Professor Wolfgang Franz, President of the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW), Mannheim, and Chairman of the Expert Advisory Committee on Economic Development. Professor Franz is going to present his guest lectures on May 5 and May 12 at the Tulla Auditorium (Englerstraße 11, building No. 11.40).

Professor Franz is one of the five “wise men” advising the German federal government in economic policy issues. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology and holds the Chair for Economics of the University of Mannheim. These are just a few data about Professor Franz. As one of the key economic experts in the country, the 66-year old scholar is frequently asked for his opinion.

The Heinrich Hertz Guest Professor will explain his assessment of the economic policy challenges for the next couple of years in his lecture at the Tulla Auditorium on Wednesday, May 5, 6 p.m. His second guest lecture on Wednesday, May 12, again at 6 p.m. at the Tulla Auditorium, will be about “Economic Policy Consulting in Germany: Experience and Perspectives.”

The Karlsruher Universitätsgesellschaft created the Heinrich Hertz Guest Professorship in 1987, the year of the 100th anniversary of the discovery of electromagnetic waves by Heinrich Hertz at the University of Karlsruhe. The professorship is endowed with euro 7500. It is awarded each academic year by the Society and the President of KIT on behalf of the University. The guest professorship goes to outstanding personalities in science, business, culture, and politics for their achievements and contributions to research and society. Among others, Heinrich Hertz guest professorships were held by Nobel Prize winners Rudolf Mößbauer and Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard, literary critic Marcel Reich-Ranicki, Roman Herzog, astronaut Thomas Reiter, and Hans-Peter Villis, Chief Executive Officer of EnBW. The evening lectures are open to the public.
