In the renowned Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking 2016-2017, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is ranked in position 144 worldwide and on place 14 in Germany.
This good ranking of KIT is mainly due to improvements in the areas of education, internationality, and citations by up to three percent. As regards third-party funding by industry, KIT has reached the top 50. KIT already did well in the recently published QS Ranking, where it reached the top 100.
The annual THE Ranking of the Times Higher Education journal is based on thirteen criteria. The universities’ reputation is derived from interviews of academic staff members. General statistics of the universities are evaluated and citations of articles in expert journals are counted. The criteria are weighed as follows: Education (30%), research (30%), citations (30%), internationality (7.5%), and industry income (2.5%).
