Claudia Nemat Receives Heinrich Hertz Guest Professorship

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and KIT Freundeskreis und Fördergesellschaft e.V. award the 2021 Heinrich Hertz Guest Professorship to Claudia Nemat. The German manager is Member of the Management Board of Deutsche Telekom and responsible for technology and innovation. On October 29, 2021, 16.30 hrs, she will speak about “Digitale Technologien und Humanismus” (digital technologies and humanism) at the Johann-Gottfried-Tulla-Hörsaal on KIT’s Campus South. In addition, Nemat will offer a seminar for the students at KIT.

In her lecture (in German) on digital technologies and humanism, Claudia Nemat will highlight a world that combines digital technologies and humanistic values. She will explain this combination and present the resulting opportunities. Which moral questions are faced by technology corporations? Which influence do digital technologies have on our society? Moreover, the manager will address internal and external impacts on digital companies. Which challenges have to be met by companies? How can they conceive and shape a future worth living together with the different stakeholders? Nemat will speak about the digital present and the humanistic technology future. Then, the audience will be invited to join a discussion. 

Her seminar for students of KIT will focus on “Telco 2030: Was sind die Fähigkeiten der Zukunft?“

About the Heinrich Hertz Guest Professorship

Every year, the Heinrich Hertz Guest Professorship is awarded by KIT Freundeskreis und Fördergesellschaft e.V. and KIT to a renowned person from science, industry, culture, or politics for outstanding achievements and contributions in research and society. KIT Freundeskreis und Fördergesellschaft e.V. sponsors research, academic education, innovation, and academic life at KIT and endowed the Guest Professorship in 1987, one hundred years after physicist Heinrich Hertz experimentally proved the existence of electromagnetic waves at Technische Hochschule Karlsruhe, a predecessor institution of KIT.

About the Person

Claudia Nemat, born in 1968 in Bensberg, studied physics at the University of Cologne and taught at the Institute of Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. For 17 years, she worked at McKinsey & Company, where she was elected Partner in 2000 and Senior Partner in 2006. Among others, she co-led the global and led the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Asia) technology sector. Since 2011, Nemat has been Member of Deutsche Telekom’s Management Board. Until late 2016, she led the European business. Since January 2017, she has been responsible for the board area “Technology and Innovation,” which includes networks, IT, products, as well as information and cyber security. (ase)
