Africa is at the beginning of an education and science revolution that can be accelerated through international cooperation. How strong partnerships between Germany and Africa can effectively support this transformation is the focus of our discussion today.
 
Our roundtable offers experts a unique platform to discuss the immense potential, challenges, and opportunities for building and deepening cooperation. They will give insights into new models for collaboration in the research and education sector which have the goal to support effective and competency-oriented growth of the African education and research sector.

In this digital event, you will learn why teaching evaluations and surveys on studies & teaching are the easiest way to improve your studies.
What happens to your answers?
Where are they discussed?
And most importantly: What can they achieve?
 
The team from the BESSEr@KIT project will explain why it is important for you to participate in teaching evaluations and surveys on studies and teaching, and how you, your degree program, and all students at KIT can benefit from them.
This event will be held in German.
 
We recommend participating via a PC/laptop, as a smartphone is needed for the interactive part.
 
Note: For later use, some of the Zoom presentations will be recorded, but only the presenter and the slides, not the discussion or other participants. If a recording takes place, you will be informed at the beginning.

Welcome Day for New KIT Staff Members
Fortbildungszentrum für Technik und Umwelt (FTU), Campus North

The event addresses newly employed staff members and provides them an overview of the manifold KIT activities, its research topics, facilities
and wide-range portfolio. The Welcome Day gives you the opportunity to get in contact with new colleagues and start networking.

On a "marketplace" various Service Units present their fields of work, work processes and their range of services offered. You, as a participant in this event, take advantage of the possibility to enter into discussion with contact persons and receive answers to your individual questions and concerns directly on the spot.
The Welcome Day concludes with a guided visit of Campus North providing participants the chance to jointly get impressions of selected research facilities and projects.
 
All new staff members will be personally invited for participation. Cost-free participation: For KIT staff members, attendance fees are centrally covered by KIT.

This interactive workshop is one of two sessions, facilitated by Meike von Platen-Holzapfel, experienced HR specialist and career coach. With her tips and insights international students can kick-start their careers in the German job market.
Here’s a summary of what you can expect to gain from it:
 
Learn the specifics of how to apply for jobs in Germany and understand the recruiter's perspective Use tools to reflect your strengths and to assess your individual preferences Know how to emphasize your strenghts in the application documents Develop a personalized job search strategy, including where to look for jobs and how to identify your preferred employers and roles Learn how to tailor your CV to meet the expecations of German recruiters Gain skills to write a cover letter that showcases you as the perfect candidate This workshop will equip you with the knowledge and tools to navigate the German job market confidently.
  The second session "Job Interview Training" is taking place on the 21.05.2025. Both sessions can be visited separately.   
 
This training is funded by the DAAD project ‘Study, stay, succeed in Karlsruhe’. International students intending to graduate at KIT are given priority for a place as well as graduates up to 1 year after graduation.
Non-international students can also enroll and will be placed at the waiting list. We inform them a few days before start, if there are places left for non-international students and if they can attend.

From principle to practice - how global science can be linked to local action to safeguard lives and livelihoods in Africa

Am Mittwoch, dem 14. Mai 2025, gibt Dr. Chris Funk, Direktor des Climate Hazards Center der University of California, Santa Barbara, Einblicke in die Verbindung globaler Klimawissenschaft mit lokalem Handeln. Der Träger des International Excellence Award des KIT wird darlegen, wie wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse in praktische Frühwarnsysteme für afrikanische Regionen übersetzt werden können. Der Vortrag thematisiert die Auswirkungen von Klimaphänomenen wie El Niño auf Afrika und zeigt auf, wie interdisziplinäre Forschung Lebensgrundlagen sichern kann.

English:
On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Dr. Chris Funk, Director of the Climate Hazards Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will provide insights into linking global climate science with local action. The recipient of KIT's International Excellence Award will explain how scientific knowledge can be translated into practical early warning systems for African regions. The talk will address the impacts of climate phenomena such as El Niño on Africa and demonstrate how interdisciplinary research can help secure livelihoods.
